John William Waterhouse - Portrait

[Portrait of Mrs Alex Puleston Henderson] 1908
oil on canvas, oval
.
The Henderson's were Waterhouse's most notable and consistent patrons. They accumulated more than 30 of his works and decorated Lord Faringdon's house - Buscot Park in Oxfordshire. Waterhouse stayed with them at their house in Algeciras.

I love the pale pinks of her dress. Waterhouse created some beautiful paintings. I wonder how many portrait artist actually get to move into their client's homes while they paint their patrons.

You could suggest it! I think he was something rather special and patronage was rather different then. I have found a lot of pictures of Victorian artist's studios and will start to include them soon.
