Helena Maguire

1860 - 1909.
A watercolourist working in the style of Birket Foster and William Henry Hunt. Daughter of Thomas Herbert Maguire a historical painter and her sister Adelaide Agnes was known for her genre and flower paintings. Helena exhibited at the RA but never became very well known. She illustrated a number of children's books.

They are very cute really but she does seem to have worked from life and had a real talent.

These 2 images are exceptional perhaps not typical. Maguire cat & dog images, both realistic & fantasy, perhaps largest category in 1890s UK greeting cards, then reused extensively for early 1899-1906 Euro art postcards, equally so for U.S. postcards 1906-191
