This painting holds a special significance to me, not only because Albert Ludovici was my great grandfather, but because this is a record of his children, the youngest in the painting being my grandfather Edward. (Though it looks like he's wearing a dress, its really a boy!) The two daughters, Dolly and Lily sadly died very young, ages 9 and 18.
Albert Ludovici Snr, his father, was also an artist, and often Galleries, Auction houses and exhibitors get father and son's artwork confused. However their signatures are very different; Albert Snr always signed with a monogram, A L encased in a C, (for Carl, his middle name,) and Jnr. always signed Ludovici in full with a sweeping L.
There is also confusion on where they were born. Albert Snr was born in Chemnits, Saxony, and Albert jnr was born in London. A.Snr was not Italian at all, or born in prague, as many galleries claim;he was German, and moved to Paris and then Hampstead, London with his young Parisian wife.. though our ancestors were originally from Bologna and Rome way back in the 1600's, with connections to gregory XV1, we have no Italian relatives that we know of.

Did Albert Jnr ever complete a duo of works depicting young men attempting to court two young ladies at a park? They are first found on a park bench with their elder lady chaperone (she is reading a newspaper). The two gentlemen are quite animated in their efforts to garner the attention of the two young ladies. The second work depicts the fruits of the two men's labors as the chaperone falls asleep and they at last get to spend a little time with the ladies. I believe the first has a title, "Honey Attracts the Wasps" and the second, "Forbidden Fruit is Sweetest". They both bear signatures that match with several other works showcased on the internet. Do you have any information on these works? I would appreciate any knowledge. I do not know at this time if they are reproduction or original as I have not been able to fully examine them. Thank you for your time. I have quickly become an avid admirer of Albert Jnr and his timeless artistry.
